Please open System Preferences and select the Mission Control preference pane, where you will see an option labeled Displays have separate Spaces 2. Connect the pure 3-in-1 Adapter to a splitter (another device that accepts one HDMI input and spilts into 4 HDMI outputs) using HDMI cable and then connect the two monitors using HDMI outputs. I'm just after two external monitors for my MacBook Air running in Clamshell mode. Source of below and the MBA M1 is not designed to run two External Displays. Connect pure HDMI, VGA based monitors into one 3-in-1 mini-display port adapter. HDMI splitters, I'm guessing, won't do the trick - e.g., it can't possibly be that easy, can it? I'd prefer them all connected through the Thunderbolt port, but if it needs to be done via USB I can do that. NOTE: I don't need to have *three separate screens* - that is, two externals and the Air itself every question I've found online they all want to use two monitors AND the laptop screen all at once. I’ve only found sources indicating that this is not possible, but I feel that theres a setup that can do it. The limitation isnt power or graphics cards, its simply a matter of how many ports it has. I’m interested in the new 2015 MacBook (not Pro or Air), but only if it supports the ability to have two or three external monitors. The Air is more than powerful enough but it doesnt have the capability to handle it easily. What I'm aiming for is a landscape monitor for the visual end and the portrait monitor for "code mode" so I can see the bulk of the PHP doc all at once. It is possible to run dual external monitors but it requires some expensive setup to get working. This entire thread is dedicated to this topic, so you already have your answer. Yes, MacBook Air can support up to two external monitors. Or buy a MacBook Pro with M1 Pro or Max, which support more monitors. And you can use DisplayLink if you really want to use more, but youll have to sacrifice some performance. Most laptop users never use an external screen, so its not a huge issue for the cheaper laptops. I have a single external monitor set up for my MBAir that runs in clamshell mode - and I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a second monitor connected while it's in clamshell mode. I have the M1 Macbook pro, and Im unable to use dual monitors. Which leaves one external monitor for laptops.
